Waving the White Flag!

Hebrews 12 7-13

As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all. Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?

10 For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. 11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

12 So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. 13 Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.

We are called to share in God’s holiness and the way we do that is through surrender. Sometimes we receive discipline until we surrender and other times we choose to live in surrender and participate in his holiness simply and freely.

Not all pain in life is discipline in search of surrender sometimes we have a painful path to walk and it is a fight to remain fully surrendered to his purposes and his plan. When we maintain this posture even when it hurts we see God. He can only come face to face with those whom Jesus has made holy. Surrender is what allows for this holiness.

Romans 12:1-2

And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.[b] Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Living in surrender means we are a living and Holy sacrifice. And we will walk in God’s good pleasing and perfect will.
