Why should we be a part of a Life Group?

Mathew 28:18-20

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and  of the Holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Within the church we find both followers and disciples.

Followers, like the rich man mentioned in Mark chapter 17, who left Jesus when He asked him to sell everything and give it to the poor.  Followers, like Nicodemus, who came to Jesus during the night because he was afraid about what people would say if they saw him.

And then there are disciples who are ready to give their life, their time, family, work…everything to the LORD as the first disciples did.  Peter left everything behind to be a disciple.  He made mistakes and wanted to walk away many times, but each time, Peter came back and repented and had a willingness to be discipled even when he had to learn the hard lessons.

To be a Christian, a disciple of Christ,  is to die daily before our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ.  This is done by putting Him first in our lives by having a daily relationship and communion with the LORD.  If we don’t lay our lives down, in essence dying to ourselves, we won’t be called disciples, we become followers.  As a “follower”, our lives become defeated, struggling to find power to overcome circumstances.

Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me.  Since you priests refuse to know me, I refuse to recognize you as my priests.  Since you have forgotten the laws of your God, I will forget to bless your children.”

This scripture describes why many people struggle with depression, drugs, alcohol, divorce, etc., because we don’t know the way the LORD is telling us to live.  We can accept Jesus in our hearts, but we also need to know how to live so our life is full of victory.

Life Groups is the place where we learn how to deal with problems, how to face situations and get the victory God has already attained for us.  This happens by being connected with a community of believers who will give support and help.  And by having leaders and Pastors who will help coach you along with the Holy Spirit.

The spiritual race we are in can become heavy if it is run alone.  Being a part of Life Groups means that we are never alone.  The LORD doesn’t want lonely rangers, He wants His army running together.
